"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity." - Martin Luther King Jr.

I love travelling to new places, meeting new people and learning new things. I have been blessed with an amazing opportunity to do all of that and more. Please check out the link below if you would like to know more about Zebra Crossing Adventures or how to support me on this trip of a lifetime.

"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." - Henry Ford

Pretty much done day 4 of this journey already!

I feel like I've been away forever, but I also feel like I just got here! We have internet at the place we are staying, but only a couple people brought computers and our days are packed so there is not much time to use them anyways. That said, I don't have much time to post. I just wanted to say that we've arrived and I am having a great time thus far. Uganda is lovely, as are its people. Also, I love my teammates and the rest of our crew...it has been amazing getting to know them these past couple days and can't wait to continue!

Sincerely yours, til next time :)

"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." - Seneca

"Todays' the dayyy, the sun is shining, the tank is clean and we are getting out of...AH THE TANK IS CLEAN!" - Finding Nemo

It's finally here! I can't believe I'm going to wake up in Africa tomorrow! Super pumped to go meet some teammates in Montreal this afternoon, then more in Brussels and then everyone is Kampala!
Everything is packed and ready to go, I'm hoping I didn't forget anything. Just finished saying as many goodbyes as I could, gonna miss everyone for the next three weeks. We have some internet where we will be staying, so I'll try to keep in touch...but I might just be too busy experiencing a whole new world!

Peace out Canada, be in touch soon!

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." - Marcel Proust

3 DAYS TO GO!

To all those who helped me reach my fundraising goal: thank you, thank you, thank you!

To all those who collected cans and bottles for me: thanks a million!

To all those who donated items for the people in Uganda: thank you very much for your generosity!

To all those who couldn't donate, but sent encouraging messages: thank you so much as well!

It's nice to know that I have people all over the place supporting me. Each time I received anything, it brightened my day! It really is the thought that counts...so whether it taking money out of your pocket or taking time out of your day or sending some kind words, trust me, I appreciated it :)

SHOUT OUTS:
First of all, to the Murphy families, the Jeffrey families and my extended relatives on both sides. Next to all my "adopted families" at Lake Clear, Holy Trinity, Bishop's, Holy Redeemer, and Church at the Elm. Also to the friends and colleagues of my parents. And finally, to the rest of my friends/colleagues/teammates/coaches/teachers!

"Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith." - Henry Ward Beecher

604 800 seconds.
10 080 minutes.
168 hours.
7 days.
ONE WEEK.

Not going to lie, I was nervous for a bit that I would not have enough funds to make this. But of course, with a little bit of faith, a little bit of prayer, a little bit of encouragement from others and things have worked themselves out.

The money is sent, waiting to be received and there should be enough. I am anxious, but have faith it will be processed on time. For the past 3 months I have been focusing on preparing, fundraising, spreading the word and doing all the little things that go along with a big trip...now, the time has come! This week will still be busy with last minute details and packing, but once this week is over I will just have to get on the plane and go. It is going to be such a huge relief when that day comes, knowing that the planning part is over. I just want to be with my team in Uganda already!

"If we don't try, we don't do. And if we don't do, why are we here on this Earth?" - Jimmy Stewart

Hey Everyone! Welcome!

My name is Clare, as I assume most of you know if you've been given this link. I'm going into my 3rd year at Bishop's University where I've played on the Lady Gaiters Varsity Basketball team and studied Neuroscience.

This year I got involved with the Athletes In Action group at school. Through them I was given the chance to travel to Uganda this August for 3 weeks. Athletes in Action is the sports branch of Power to Change. It allows people of faith who are involved in post-secondary sport to come together and support one another while also reaching out to other communities in Canada, the U.S., as well as some more disadvantaged countries all over the world.

This summer's mission trip will involve about 20 female CIS and NCAA basketball players going to work with the staff AIA has set up in Kampala. We will train with a Ugandan team, run clinics, camps, visit orphanages and Gulu University. We want to share the word and love of God through the platform of sports. We are also going to encourage the children, students, athletes and leaders so that their ministry can hopefully become self-sustaining.

Like any type of travel, it is not free. Each person has been asked to raise $5000 in sponsorship. This money will go towards our transportation, food, shelter, insurance, visas, as well as ministry supplies and resources. So every dollar will be appreciated by me, my group and the people we will be visiting. Basically, I am asking for you support - whether it be $5 or $500, from you, your family or your company - anything would be great!

Also, SPREAD THE WORD! Tell your friends, family and coworkers. Send them the link to this blog. Maybe they will be able to help or at least they will learn about something new, interesting and awesome.

Donations can be by cheque, credit card over the phone, or credit card online. And, YES, ALL ARE TAX DEDUCTABLE!

More info to come :)
